Accelerated Reader

Accelerated Reader (AR) is one of the tools we use at Beech Hill to motivate students to read more and better books. As students read AR books (identifiable by stars on the book spines) they may take AR tests. There will be books in the Library Media Center that we have not yet purchased tests for. If a student wants to take a test on such a book, the library staff will make every effort to read the book and write a test to enter into the AR program. When this test has been entered, the student may then take the test for points.

| Classroom Rewards |
| The theme for this year will be “Paws to Read and Write,” and to encourage students to participate, when every student in a class earns the following points, the class will receive the listed reward. The reward will be given during the first week of each month . Work together to meet these goals, and encourage each other! (April 30 is the last day to qualify for classroom rewards.) Also, remember that books can be read to children for them to take the quiz on. The Media Specialist will announce which classes have achieved their goals. Each classroom will have a sailboat on the wall inside the LMC pointed in the direction of a lighthouse. Each time all students in a class earn the listed number of points the sailboat will move closer to the “light.” These classes will be recognized on the BHES Morning Show. |

| Point rewards will be awarded to individual students as they reach the listed point levels. The rewards will be given during the first week of each month beginning in September and ending in May. To qualify, students must have a (majority) passing average. Names will be announced on the BHES Morning Show! |

| Monthly Goals |
| Students who earn the following points during any given month will receive a Book It! Certificate for Pizza Hut from their teacher. Students who reach the point goals during 7 out of 9 months may attend the Book It! party in May. |
